Edge Banding Adhesives

EVA (Ethyl Viny Acetate) adhesives that we supply to our customers as Mobelkant are characterized by an innovative formulation resulting from a research and development process that we continue over time by collecting the different needs of our customers and recommended to our customers.EVA-based hot melt adhesives are designed to be reliable and practical adhesives, thanks to their effective and applicable properties on different surfaces, and adapt immediately to a wide variety of materials. Thanks to these features, their uses are broad and cover the most demanding applications. EVA adhesives are adhesives formulated on a thermoplastic basis that are solid when placed at room temperature but become very soft when heated.

Easy to Adhere Perfectly

This process ensures that the adhesive adheres perfectly to surfaces, providing a physical hold and providing the following benefits: – Practicality and ease of use. – Instant activation with no waiting times. – High viscosity index when required. – Adhesion and applicability to non-porous and curved surfaces. – High bonding efficiency. – High mechanical and chemical properties. – Ability to resist external factors. – Possibility of reuse in some cases. – Aesthetically clean use. Mobelkant offers many different types of Hot Melt glue to its customers. The application sectors of Holmelt adhesives are very wide; Thanks to the typicality and technical properties of the adhesive in question, it can be applied in a wide variety of industries from packaging to construction, plastic assembly to textiles, packaging to do-it-yourself. In the furniture sector, which is our sector, hot-melt adhesives are used for bonding solid wood, aluminum, veneer, melamine, polyester, HPL, PVC, ABS and PP edges of various thicknesses to core boards.

Differences Between Hotmelt Adhesives

EVA hot melt adhesives are based on Ethyl-Vinyl Acetate (EVA), while PO hot melt adhesives are based on Polyolefin and PUR hot melt adhesives are based on polyurethane reactive technology. Edgebanding using EVA hot melt is widely used due to its ease of use, but PUR is also gaining ground fast thanks to its outstanding benefits. If the joints need to be water or heat resistant (fire doors or kitchen cabinets), PUR adhesive is recommended as it has significantly higher water and heat resistance than an EVA adhesive. Polyolefin-based adhesives for edgebanding applications have better hydrolysis and heat resistance than EVA-based adhesives. It is easier to apply than PUR adhesives and provides better stability in the melting equipment compared to standard EVA-based adhesives, while reducing the risk of banding in the application unit.

Importance of Storage Environment

PUR-based adhesives will always outperform EVA or PO adhesives. EVA hot melt adhesives are classified as filled and unfilled adhesives. Filled adhesives are generally less costly and contain, in addition to adhesive resins, fillers such as chalk that can help prevent wire drawing at low speeds. Unfilled hot melt adhesives can be applied thinner to provide a tighter bond, offering high glue life and high ultimate bond strength. When using PUR-based adhesives, chemical crosslinking is achieved within a few days. However, it is important to store the bonded materials above 15°C, that is, below 15°C, in order for full curing to occur and the curing process stops. Not all edgebanders are equipped to run PUR adhesives. PUR hardware cannot spread rapidly due to its high cost. The very important thing when using PUR adhesives is to clean the adhesive melting tank and applicator (nozzle/roller) after use with a suitable cleaning agent – unlike EVA adhesives, PUR adhesives do not melt again once cured
